Most chillers run on electricity. An absorption chiller runs on heat — specifically the exhaust heat your gas turbine or reciprocating gas engine is currently throwing away (or hot water, steam, or direct gas/oil firing on non-CHP sites). Instead of an electric compressor, it uses a lithium bromide solution cycle to produce chilled water at little to no additional fuel cost.

The CHP advantage: In a standard trigeneration setup, a 1,000 kW-class gas turbine or reciprocating gas engine genset produces electricity while its exhaust at up to 566°F feeds a World Energy CHP050HH, producing 308–460 tons of cooling. The same exhaust also heats domestic hot water — all from one fuel input. System efficiency exceeds 90%.
The low-stage generator acts as the condenser for the high stage — heat energy is used twice. This reduces heat input requirement by ~45% vs. single-effect chillers, enabling COP 1.40–1.46.
Switch the change valve on the control panel: the unit shifts to heating mode, delivering hot water at 60°C (140°F) standard, or 80°C (176°F) with the optional HH heat exchanger. One machine, two seasonal modes.
All models are double-effect, exhaust gas-driven absorption chillers (CHPHH series) — compatible with exhaust from a gas turbine or a reciprocating gas engine. UL Listed. AHRI 560 certified. Refrigerant: distilled water + lithium bromide. Power: 3-phase 440/460V, 50/60 Hz.
The "HH" suffix designates models with an integrated domestic hot water heat exchanger. As exhaust gas enters at 566°F, a secondary circuit produces domestic hot water at 55–80°C simultaneously with cooling — at no additional fuel cost. Two configurations: DHW heat exchanger inside the high-temp generator, or steam condensate recovery from an external heat exchanger.

Where a chiller isn't the goal, World Energy's absorption heat pumps recover low-grade waste heat (roughly 60–90°C) and upgrade it into higher-temperature hot water for process use, district heating, or domestic hot water — at COPs up to 1.8, with no electric compressor.
